NSF-JST Workshop

NSF-JST Workshop

I am thrilled to share my experience of participating in the NSF (USA) and JST (Japan) joint workshop. The NSF-JST Workshop on “Secure and Resilient Smart Living CPS” was successfully held on July 2-3, 2024, in Osaka, Japan. This workshop was organized in conjunction with the IEEE Conference on Smart Computing (SMARTCOMP), which took place from June 29 to July 1, 2024, at the Osaka International Conference Center. The workshop aimed to:

  • Promoting cross-fertilization, sharing, and exchange of research ideas between the US and Japanese research communities.
  • Identifying potential areas for further collaboration, both around individual research projects and broader themes funded by NSF and JST.
  • Jointly addressing the complexities and challenges of security and resilience in Smart Living CPS.
  • Exploring joint funding initiatives to support impactful US-Japan collaborative research.

I was honored to be selected among a distinguished group of scientists for the panel discussion titled “Is AI a Blessing or a Curse in Creating a Smarter Society?” The dialogue covered numerous aspects, including individual privacy challenges, information security, investment scale, intellectual property, AI risks for children, and opportunities for the youth. I had the pleasure of engaging in this insightful discussion with:

– Professor Toshiaki Aoki (Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, Japan πŸ‡―πŸ‡΅)

– Professor Nikil Dutt (University of California, Irvine, USA πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ)
– Professor Qi Han (Colorado School of Mines, USA πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ)
– Professor Insup Lee (University of Pennsylvania, USA πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ)

The session was moderated by:
– Professor Nirmalya Roy (University of Maryland Baltimore County, USA πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ)
– Professor Keiichi Yasumoto (Nara Institute of Technology, Japan πŸ‡―πŸ‡΅)

I believe that such collaborative discussions are essential in shaping the future of AI and contributing to the betterment of our societies. πŸŒŸπŸ€πŸ’‘
